The Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has demanded the State government to cancel the results declared for appointment of field engineers in the Meghalaya State Watershed Development Agency (MSWDA) citing violation of the State reservation policy.
According to the organisation, 16 candidates were appointed by the agency after a personal interview in May, 2022 as filed engineers for the ‘community owned small multipurpose reservoirs in Meghalaya’ project but only one candidate from the Garo community was declared successful.
Unhappy with this, AHAM president George Prince Momin has written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma with an objection that the state reservation policy was ignored in this case. He said this was not acceptable as the agency would require locals for the success of the project.
“The organisation demands that the results declared be scrapped immediately and the new results be declared upholding the Meghalaya State Job Reservation Policy and in addition, an enquiry committee to be set up against the person responsible for his illegal acts,” Momin said.
While eruption of multiple agitations in the Garo Hills will be the result for this violation, the AHAM president said the organisation would take the matter to the court if the government does not intervene.
