Jirang MDC Victor Ranee who recently quit the National People’s Party (NPP) was allotted Congress ticket to contest the upcoming district council election.
Ranee switched over to the Congress in December and claimed that the NPP leaders from Jirang and the local MLA tarnished his image by influencing the state NPP leaders to conspire and deny him a ticket.
Meanwhile, the selection of Micky Dauglas Syiem to contest the Umroi MDC seat did not go down well with the supporters of former MDC Albinus Lyngdoh.
Syiem was a member of the Umroi Constituency People’s Forum (UCPF) but resigned from the forum on January 3, and joined the Congress.
The second list of candidates of the Congress released today features 16 candidates, out of which 11 candidates are for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and five for the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council. Till date, the Congress has announced candidates in 42 seats of the two district councils, 26 for KHADC and 16 for JHADC.
