Campaigning for the Khasi and Jaintia Hills autonomous district council polls scheduled on February 21 will end at 4 pm on Wednesday.
During the period, election campaigns, public gatherings and use of loud speakers, distribution of pamphlets etc, display of flags/banners etc will be banned.
The state government announced the polling day as a general holiday for the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region. It will apply to all districts in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills, as defined by the Commissioner & Secretary of the General Administration Department.
Industrial undertaking or any of the establishment governed by the NI Act, 1881, shops and those working on shift basis, daily wage, casual worker including those working outside the Constituencies who are voters under the above Constituencies shall be entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday as provided in Section 133(2)(b).
Moreover, the government has also declared that central government employees and employees working in the Garo Hills who are electors under the constituencies of the KHADC and JHADC will be granted special leave.
