The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is focusing on the winnability factor when making its selection of candidates for the district council elections next year.
Cabinet minister and senior state BJP leader, Alexander Laloo Hek, today said that the party leaders have already held a round of discussions on the ADC polls. So far only two aspirants have expressed their willingness to contest and the party is open to more applications.
The state BJP is all on board with running candidates in both the Khasi and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils (KHADC and JHADC), elections for which have been postponed from this year to next.
The two applicants so far are from Ri-Bhoi constituencies. Although the BJP has not yet called for applications, whoever is willing can inform the party of their willingness to run.
He maintained that contesting an election is not just for the sake of the contest but one has to look from all aspects and the potential of the candidate, the seat, the winnability factor, etc. Hek also claimed that the BJP’s “pro-people” policies at the central level have resonated with the grassroots, leading to a stronger public acceptance of the party and its several centrally sponsored schemes.
