Ad hoc school teachers under the banner of Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) today urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to call them for discussion on the demand for upgradation of 843 ad hoc upper primary schools to the deficit system.
“We request the chief minister to call for discussion within this month and if he fails to do so we will chart our own course of action,” FASTOM president Kenneth Shadap told media persons here.
Shadap said that Sangma himself had made a promise on July 27, 2018 at Asanang, Tura that his government would upgrade all ad hoc upper primary schools to a deficit system.
Recently, hundreds of ad hoc upper primary school teachers staged a sit-in demonstration at Kynton U Mon, Laitkor to protest against the apathy of the chief minister to their demand for upgradation.
Shadap also said that the Deputy Director of School Education and Literacy had on March 18, 2019 sent a circular to all Sub-Divisional School Education Officers (SDSEOs) on the proposal to upgrade ad hoc upper primary schools into deficit schools.
Hitting out at the State government for not honouring its commitment on the matter, Shadap said, “This MDA government is not a government for the people but a government of politicians and businessmen.”
He also demanded an increase of the salary of mid day meal cooks from Rs 1000 to Rs 3000 as was done to mid day meal cooks in SSA schools.
