Shillong, Sep 2: Ad-hoc school teachers have once again highlighted their plight living on meagre salaries stating they are now faced with challenges in ensuring quality education for their own children due to financial constraints.
The Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) at a press conference today expressed frustration that ad-hoc teachers across different levels continue to struggle with low pay.
FASTOM Vice President Sanborn Jungai said the current salary structure for ad-hoc teachers in Meghalaya is Rs 18,000 for Lower Primary, Upper Primary (Rs 22,000) Secondary teachers (Rs 29,000), Higher Secondary teachers (Rs 33,000) Science teachers (Rs 31,000) and Hindi teachers at Rs 18,000 per month.
“We are among the most neglected teachers in Meghalaya. It is disheartening and frustrating to see the present situation,” he said.
FASTOM announced that teachers have decided to launch an agitation to press for their demands, which will be finalised during a meeting scheduled for September 13, 2025.
