Shillong, Sep 21: A self-described social activist, Cherian Momin, has joined in the attack on the North-Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) for allegedly interfering in the development of the university’s Tura campus.
A few days ago the Niksamso Garo Community Organisation (NGCO) had accused NEHUTA of the same thing and Momin has now added his voice to the complaint with similar points.
It all goes back to an accusation of NEHUTA’s own against why the university authorities had awarded a contract to Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd in preparing the detailed project report for work for which funds of Rs 94 crore had been sanctioned by the central government.
Both the NGCO and Momin stated that NEHUTA made this claim without proof and quickly dropped the matter when the then Director of Tura Campus, Prof S Gurudev, refuted them. NEHUTA has also been accused of trying to stop NEHU’s executive council meetings, which could put the remaining funds from the central government in danger of being withdrawn.
