Shillong, Sep 18 : Meghalaya recorded a further 89 new infections from Covid-19 in the preceding 24 hours, with 95 recoveries in the same period. The total number of active cases is now 1,976 and the total recovered cases stands at 2,437.
This was the lowest number of new infections recorded in the state since September 8.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 70 – 67 of which were civilians and three from the armed forces/paramilitaries. East Jaintia Hills registered 14, West Garo Hills two and one each in Ri-Bhoi, South West Garo Hills and South West Khasi Hills.
Of the civilians, East Khasi Hills recorded new infections among 41 high-risk contacts, four health workers, two returnees, four with influenza like illnesses (ILIs), one in Golf Links, two in Laban, four in Mawprem, five in Nongmynsong, three in Khyndailad and one in Umlyngka. Two of the health workers are dental surgeons in Shillong Civil Hospital, one an employee at the District Medical and Health Office in Shillong and one a lab technician in Sohra.
All 14 cases in East Jaiñtia Hills were in the Star Cement factory, while in West Garo Hills the two were high-risk contacts. There was a positive result in a high-risk contact in Ri-Bhoi, a returnee in South West Garo Hills and a health worker in South West Khasi Hills. The latter is a Grade IV employee at the Mawkyrwat Corona Care Centre.
There were 38 recoveries in Ri-Bhoi (six jawans, 32 civilians), 28 in West Garo Hills (14 jawans, 14 civilians), 19 in East Khasi Hills (12 jawans, seven civilians), five in North Garo Hills, three in West Khasi Hills and two in West Jaiñtia Hills.
There are now 1,369 active cases in East Khasi Hills (236 jawans, 1,133 civilians), 279 in East Jaintia Hills, 134 in West Garo Hills (56 jawans, 78 civilians), 129 in Ri-Bhoi (41 jawans, 88 civilians), 18 in South Garo Hills, 15 in South West Garo Hills, 10 in West Khasi Hills, eight in West Jaiñtia Hills, six in South West Khasi Hills, five in East Garo Hills and three in North Garo Hills.
The samples sent for testing until Thursday afternoon were 1,29,503 out of which 1,24,315 tested negative while the reports of 743 are awaited.
The number of people who have entered Meghalaya since Covid-19 restrictions were put in place is 37,743.
