The hunger strike launched by the A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) to demand the retrospective implementation of the roster system and to make Tura the winter capital of Meghalaya, completed six days today with no response from the state government.
ACHIK senior member Laben Ch Marak and Garo State Movement Committee co-chairman Balkarin Ch Marak are undergoing the hunger strike in Tura and have decided to continue the protest until Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma calls them for talks on the issue.
Balkarin’s health has been deteriorating, an ACHIK press release stated today.
It added that more hunger strikers will join the action from Monday.
Meanwhile, ACHIK has also begun a signature campaign to make Tura the winter capital of Meghalaya. This campaign aims to gather widespread support and generate awareness about the need for a holistic and integrated approach to address the challenges faced as a community.
