In a letter to Bangladesh’s Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, ACHIK said that, on behalf of the global Garo community, it expresses “deep concern and dismay” over the attack on two Garo families on October 15.
The victims were Bisso Mree, Eva Mree and Stanton Mree and they were attacked in Babelakona, Bangladesh. “The heinous nature of this assault has not only shocked the Garo people but also raised significant concerns about their safety and well-being in Bangladesh,” ACHIK said in its letter.
It demanded that the interim government of Bangladesh should institute an impartial investigation to ensure accountability and to prevent future occurrences of such violent attacks against the Garo community.
“We also urge the government of Bangladesh to take proactive steps to protect its indigenous communities, including the Garo, from violence, discrimination, and marginalization,” the organisation added.
