A day after the Non Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) filed a police complaint against two council engineers, the officers in question filed a counter complaint here alleging threats made by the association.
Sukumar Marak and Nikchang Momin alleged that the NGEA had been threatening GHADC employees who wanted to work over the phone if they made attempts to enter the office, which the NGEA has been picketing in protest against not receiving their salary arrears, amounting to 34 months.
“They are staging their protest without any permission from authorities and though they have a right to agitate over salaries, they have no right to occupy GHADC premises for the protests and they certainly do not have rights to threaten officers,” said the FIR by the duo.
The two were accused by the NGEA of stealing office files. Instead, the duo said, they had only taken them because there was no electricity in the office, so they decided to work from home.
