The absence of full-fledged Syiems in various Himas falling under the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is hampering the operationalisation of subordinate district council courts, Chief Executive Member Titostarwell Chyne said today.
In all there are seven additional subordinate district council courts which are functional, he added. These are in Mylliem, Nongstoiñ, Sohra, Nongkhlaw, Mawphlang, Shella and Langrin.
Acting Syiems or acting chiefs do not take the issue of making additional subordinate courts functional seriously, Chyne said, but his executive committee is determined to see that all Himas get full-fledged Syiems and their village council courts.
