The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has appointed coordinators for all five districts of Garo Hills to ensure effective representation and coordination at the grassroots level.
AAP held a programme in Tura on Saturday, with Rajesh Sharma, the party member in charge of the North East, and Suresh Prajapati present at the event.
The theme of the programme was ‘Political Change in Garo Hills’ and underscored the hopes of the people for a change in the political landscape in the region. In his address, Sharma emphasised the “wide support” for AAP across the country. He underscored the party’s agenda and ideology and pointed to achievements in Delhi, which it has run for the past several years, such as in the education sector, health clinics and free electricity.
He also highlighted the provision of 20,000 litres of drinking water per family per month and construction of roads in Delhi. Sharma reiterated the party’s commitment to eradicating corruption and stressed that the Delhi government is the only administration that operates at a profit in the entire country.
AAP is also in power in Punjab and Sharma said that the new government, within a year of coming to power, was able to pay off a Rs 6 trillion loan taken out by the previous administration as well as provide 300 units of free electricity while investing in school infrastructure and other developments.
At the programme, several notable personalities joined the party, including former Bajengdoba MLA OK Sangma.
Sharma appointed coordinators for all five districts in Garo Hills. These are Indrash M Marak (South West Garo Hills), Tening Ch Sangma (South Garo Hills), Balensing Ch Marak (East Garo Hills), James Jonathon S Marak and Rasel Uddin Choudhary (West Garo Hills) amd Syllus Momin (North Garo Hills).
