The drive to link Aadhaar numbers with voter ID cards (EPIC) in West Jaiñtia Hills will continue until March 31, 2023, the district’s Deputy Commissioner informed today.
Linking the two is completely voluntary and voters will not be compelled to furnish their Aadhaar details. The inability to furnish Aadhaar details will also not prevent a voter from being enrolled or from casting a vote.
The objective of this linkage is to establish the identity of electors and authentication of entries in electoral rolls and to identify registration of names of the same person in more than one constituency or more than once in the same constituency.
Aadhaar data collected from electors will in no way violate the privacy of the elector and specific security measures have been put in place and instructions have been issued to all officials, the DC assured.
Collection of Aadhaar numbers is being done through Form 6B and Booth Level Officers have been deployed to all polling stations to conduct the exercise. Voluntary collection of Aadhaar numbers is also being done at the election branch in the DC’s office in Jowai. Electors can also submit Form 6B online through portals and apps such as NVSP.
