The total Aadhaar coverage in the state is 43.38 percent, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed the Assembly during the budget session today.
Tynsong was replying to a Zero Hour notice brought by Congress MLA from Mawlai, Process Sawkmie.
The Deputy Chief Minister said, “Despite such low coverage, the department has started the Aadhaar seeding of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) ration card holders in the Public Distribution System (PDS) database where the figure stands at 16.60 percent.”
Tynsong said that this translates to 69,975 seeded ration cards out of the 4, 21,505 ration cards in total.
With the technical side in place, one ration card beneficiary from Bihar has started to receive her monthly entitlement under the scheme since December by using the ‘one nation, one ration card’ initiative, which will enable migrant workers and their family members to access benefits under the NFSA from any ration shop in the country.
