East Khasi Hills’ experiences of drug addiction and HIV/AIDS will be discussed at a meeting between the Health and Family Welfare Department and MLAs of the district.
This was informed yesterday by Health and Family Welfare Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh. “The meeting will plan and strategise to discuss and bring agendas on drug addiction and HIV/AIDS,” she said.
The meeting will be chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong. .
According to the minister, the MLAs are working closely with the public and the government will listen to their suggestions. “We have to see that we have a strategy to curb the rising cases of HIV/AIDS in our district,” she added.
Lyngdoh also said that the government hopes that such discussions will be a platform to see that the programmes brought by the state are effective.
On the issue of drug addiction, Lyngdoh said that the issue has three segments – circulation of drugs, social impact on the flow of drugs and the role of police and community to curb the trade and use of drugs.
The Health Minister also said that only surface information is not enough but there is a need to delve deeper into the issue so that HIV/AIDS and drug addiction is contained,” she added.
