The Meghalaya Athletics Association conducted selections for the 39th National Games, to be held in be held in Meghalaya in 2027.
The trial was held at the Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma Athletics Stadium in Tura on Saturday.
Over 200 athletes from across the Garo hills participated in various events, including running, jumping, and throwing. The events included 100m to 10000m running, Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, and Javelin throw.
This was the third and final trial, covering athletes from East Garo Hills, North Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, and West Garo Hills. Earlier trials were held in Wahiajer Stadium and SAI, STC, Shillong.
Joint Secretary of the association, Pleasantly Synnah emphasised the importance of trials in identifying and selecting the best athletes for the State team, stating that it is a crucial step in preparing for the national games.
West Garo Hills District Sports Officer Saljagring M Marak, coaches and officials of the Sports Department also witnessed the selection.
