A delegation from the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly is participating in a two-day national conference of the Estimates Committees of Parliament and state and Union territory legislatures in Mumbai.
The event began today and is being hosted at the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly
Leading the Meghalaya delegation is Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, who is the Chairman of the Meghalaya Committee on Estimates. He has been accompanied by committee members Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar (Mawkyrwat), Wailadmiki Shylla (Jowai), Miani D Shira (Ampati) and Arbinstone B Marak (Selsella). Commissioner and Secretary Andrew Simons and other senior officials of the Assembly Secretariat have also been included in the delegation.
The conference was inaugurated by Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla. This year’s theme is ‘Role of Estimates Committee in Effective Monitoring and Review of Budget Estimates for Ensuring Efficiency and Economy in Administration’.
Syiem offered insights into Meghalaya’s approach to legislative scrutiny, budget monitoring and promoting financial accountability.
