Sutnga -Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla inaugurated a suspension footbridge over the Amsngad River in Ratacherra Village, East Jaintia Hills District yesterday.
Funded by the state government under the Inter-State Border Areas Development Programme (ISBADP) 2023-24, the footbridge will connect the Saitual village.
Speaking during the inauguration programme, Shylla lauded the efforts of the villagers and the office of the Border Areas Development Officer(BADO), Khliehriat for the combined effort in ensuring that the project achieves fruition even as she stated that the footbridge serves to boost connectivity particularly for those living in the border areas.
Shylla also said that the bridge will connect people from Saitual more closely to adjoining villages including Ratacherrra, Umkiang and others.
Headman of Ratacherra, Pynkhlain Dhar lauded the implementation of the project. He said villagers from Saitual and Ratacherra will no longer face difficulties in crossing the river.
