A stained raincoat was recovered on Wednesday during the search and rescue operation to locate Sonam Raghuvanshi, one of the missing tourists from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, near the Mawkma road in Sohra.
The recovery comes two days after the search and rescue team recovered the decomposed body of Raja Raghuvanshi, husband of Sonam from a deep gorge below Weisawdong at Riat Arliang in Umblai.
A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Special Operations Team (SOT) and Fire and Emergency Service recovered a size 3XL raincoat appearing to be stained with blood from AD Viewpoint in Mawkma. However, it remains unconfirmed whether it belongs to one of the victims.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said there are certain stains. “Only forensic analysis can determine whether the stains are blood or something else. The item has been seized.”
The SP also reiterated that multiple theories are being considered, but the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to probe the case will rely strictly on evidence. “We will go by facts, circumstances and evidence collected from the crime scene. The post-mortem of Raja was conducted yesterday; we are awaiting the report,” he added.
