In remembrance of the sacrifice that firefighters have made and continue to make in carrying out their duties, Fire Service Day was observed in the state today.
In West Jaintia Hills, observances were held at Jowai, Saphai, Amlarem and Dawki under the theme ‘Unite to Ignite and Fire Safety India’.
The observance began with a minute’s silence paying tribute to the bravery and dedication of the fire personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Dawki Sub/officer Sabius Dhar, Saphai Sub/officer Risalan Rymbai, Amlarem Sub/officer Robert Rymbui and Jowai Station officer Anthony Rymbai led the tributes at their respective stations.
Prior to this, various awareness programmes were conducted on fire safety and preparedness.
In South West Garo HIlls, the Ampati Fire and Emergency Service Station marked the day with a strong focus on public awareness and fire safety education.
As part of the observance, the department organised a procession that commenced from the fire station and covered all major roads of Ampati and its nearby areas. The aim was to spread awareness among the public about the dos and don’ts of fire safety and methods to prevent fire-related incidents.
Firefighters and personnel participated in the procession, distributing pamphlets and engaging with the local community to emphasise the importance of vigilance, preparedness and timely response in case of fire emergencies.
