North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) Director Dr. Nalin Mehta has stated that the ongoing recruitment was for backlog vacancies left during the previous recruitment drive.
His statement came in response to opposition from the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) over the institute’s recruitment practices.
Stating that the backlog was due to non-acceptance, absence of suitable candidates, or failure of selected candidates to join, Dr Mehta said the institute has adhered to recruitment guidelines stipulated by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and also addressed several aspects related to the ongoing recruitment process.
On quota for local youths, he said NEIGRIHMS follows reservation norms for OBC and EWS categories as mandated by the Central Government and applicable laws.
According to Dr Mehta there are no provisions under the recruitment rules on the 80:20 gender recruitment ratio for Nursing Officers.
Regarding the Computer-Based Tests (CBT), which will be conducted by the Central government-owned HLL Life Care Limited, he informed that steps are being taken to accommodate more candidates from Meghalaya by setting up examination centres within the state. Those unable to appear in Meghalaya can write the test at nearby centres, such as Guwahati, he said.
Dr. Mehta further stated that NEIGRIHMS has installed adequate safety infrastructure within the hospital, especially to ensure the safety and security of female nurses and patients.
The Director reiterated that NEIGRIHMS is committed to maintaining transparency, accountability and adherence to Central Government norms in all its functioning.
