Meghalaya delivered an outstanding performance at the National Kettlebell Sport Championship, recently concluded in Goa, by securing a total of 13 medals – nine gold, three silver and one bronze. The state finished in second place overall, behind Maharashtra, which topped the medal tally, while Uttarakhand came in third.
In the One Arm 10-Minute Clean and Jerk category, Meghalaya athletes brought home multiple gold medals. Brian Wallang, Manish Sohbar, Stevenson Naduh, Ian Kupar and Enifer Nongkynrih each won a gold medal in their respective divisions. Cathy Marbaniang won a silver medal, Kathy Decruse claimed bronze and Persara Thangkhiew and Kynjaimon Pdah added two more silver medals to the tally.
In other events, Sonia Langstieh secured a gold medal in the 12-Minute Military Snatch event, while Gagandeep Singh clinched gold in the 10-Minute Snatch category.
Adding to the state’s success, their coach Sandeep Sharma won two gold medals in the 10-Minute 24kg Snatch and the 30-Minute 24kg Snatch. His exceptional performance has earned him qualification for the upcoming Kettlebell World Championship, which will be held in Busto Arsizio, Italy, from June 5 to 8.
Sharma had previously won a bronze medal for India at the World Championships in Hungary in 2023 and repeated the feat in Poland in 2024.
