The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has cited irregularities in the ongoing recruitment at the NEIGRIHMS in a meeting with Shillong MP Ricky A. J. Syngkon.
The union raised concerns about the recruitment advertised on March 22, 2025 for various positions, including Nursing Officer and Store Keeper in Grade/Group B and C. They believe that there are anomalies in the process that could be detrimental to the growth and welfare of the institute and the interests of the indigenous people of the State.
The union referred to a memorandum they submitted to NEIGRIHMS on April 1 outlining their observations and demanding modifications but were not considered and rue that the response made to them on April 4 is unjustified and irrelevant.
The KSU urged Syngkon to urgently intervene on several issues and called for the amendment to the Recruitment Rules that limits the upper age for applicants to 30 years to be scrapped, insisting that the original age limit of 35 years be reinstated, along with necessary relaxations for reserved categories.
Additionally, the Union proposed the implementation of a mandatory 80:20 female to male ratio for the effective functioning of the institute and removal of the requirement related to 50-bedded hospitals. They also suggested avoiding the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. Moreover, they recommended that the reservations for Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Group B be increased.
The KSU emphasised that NEIGRIHMS should conduct its own recruitment processes as it is an autonomous institution and should maintain its autonomy. They also suggested that the institute review its roster register and recruitment rules through its Governing Council.
