To create awareness about Tuberculosis, a street play was performed by health workers at Iawthymme, Jowai as part of the National Tuberculosis Elimination programme.
The play aimed to educate the public about the causes, symptoms, prevention and treatment of TB, emphasising the importance of early detection and adherence to medication.
The office of the District Tuberculosis Control, West Jaintia Hills also conducted a miking campaign to spread awareness about tuberculosis, the vehicle travelled throughout Jowai Town, broadcasting messages to educate the public about the disease.
Additionally, pamphlets containing information about TB were also distributed to ensure that people had access to essential knowledge on combating the disease.
Meanwhile, World TB Day was observed at Rymbai Government Secondary School in East Jaintia Hills district yesterday.
The programme was attended by Nodal Officer, National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme(NTEP) Dr L. Marbaniang, Medical and Health Officer, Rymbai PHC, Dr Lambapher Kharnaior, Senior Malaria Inspector (SMI), East Jaintia Hills District, Embhahmi Nongjngi, Senior Tuberculosis Laboratory Supervisor (STLS), Watson Siangshai, health officials, teachers and students.
Dr Marbaniang in his speech during the programme enlightened the students on the importance of creating awareness about the impact of TB disease on human body even as he further elaborated on Malaria disease and it’s infection outlining the signs and symptoms of different types of malaria while also highlighting the several ways and means which students can practice at home to prevent from infection of Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Dr Kharnaior spoke at length about tuberculosis and stressed on the importance of taking regular medicines while Siangshai enumerated the nine symptoms of TB and informed about the financial assistance provided by the government to TB patients during their medication period.
