Altogether 1,123 successful learners of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional centre Shillong were conferred with degrees, diplomas, and certificates during the 38th convocation held today.
The convocation ceremony was held at Baba Saheb Ambedkar Convention Centre, IGNOU Maidan Garhi Campus in New Delhi and in 39 regional centres across the country.
Union Education Dharmendra Pradhan gave the convocation address virtually.
As the guest of honour in Shillong, University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) Vice Chancellor Prof. Gauri Dutt Sharma said that convocation is a celebration of excellence and achievements. He congratulated IGNOU for its remarkable achievements being the number one position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and securing an A++ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) are testaments to the university’s unwavering commitment to quality education and academic excellence.
Sharma said that the landscape of education is evolving rapidly, with emerging technologies, interdisciplinary studies, and global collaborations shaping the way we learn and teach. IGNOU must continue to innovate, adapt, and lead in this dynamic environment, ensuring that it remains a pivotal institution in the global educational arena, he said.
IGNOU Regional Director Joseph Somi in his convocation welcome address highlighted the achievements and the activities undertaken by IGNOU Regional Centre Shillong during the year 2024.
