The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in collaboration with NITI Aayog launched ‘Swavalambini’ – a women entrepreneurship programme on February 7, a delayed press release informed today.
The virtual programme witnessed the inauguration of the initiative in nine universities and colleges in the North East by Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State in MSDE and Union Ministry of Education. Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of MSDE, along with other senior officials were also present during the launch.
The programme was implemented in North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Gauhati University, Kiang Nangbah Government College, Ri-Bhoi College, Mizoram University, Government Champai College, Lunglei Government College, Handique College and Dispur College, among others.
NEHU has an Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) running in the university since 2023 and it has been working closely with the youth and entrepreneurs of Meghalaya promoting innovation, entrepreneurial ventures and start-ups in the region, the release stated. More than 300 youths from Meghalaya have participated in the different activities being organised by EDC since its inception.
