The upcoming budget session of the Assembly beginning from February 28 will have seven government businesses and three private members’ businesses. The budget will be tabled on March 5.
According to the calendar finalised by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) today, the opening day of the budget session will begin with the address by the Governor.
Chaired by Speaker Thomas A. Sangma, the BAC meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs, Prestone Tynsong, Leader of the Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma, Legislators Charles Pyngrope and Lakhmen Rymbui, along with senior government officials.
Sangma said the ten working days of the session should be enough for all members to participate. “In case of a time shortage, we would be happy to extend the session even on Friday,” he added.
On March 3 and March 5 the members of the House will debate on the Governor’s address followed by the reply of the chief minister.
On March 4, 6 and 11 there will be private members’ business where bills, motions and resolutions could be tabled.
On March 7, the House will vote on the Supplementary Demands for Grants. The House will also pass the Meghalaya Appropriation (No I) Bill 2025 and discussion on the budget.
The general discussion on the budget will be held on March 10. On the same day, the chief minister will give his reply to the points raised by members.
On the final day of March 13, there will be government business which includes voting on the Demands for Grants, passing of the Meghalaya Appropriation (No II) Bill 2025 and passing of government bills.
