      Day 2 of the athletics events at the 6th Meghalaya Games brought more excitement at the Wahiajer Sports Complex.

      In the 10,000m men’s race, Kresstarjune Pathaw from South West Khasi Hills won with a time of 32:20.39 minutes to claim the gold. He was followed by Banjoplang Wanniang and Wanbok L Mawphlang from West Khasi Hills, respectively.

      The women’s 3,000m race saw East Khasi Hills star Gloryfy Kurbah win her second gold of the competition, completing the race in 11:36.53 minutes. Marqueenless Ramsiej of SWKH put up a tough fight to take silver, while EKH’s Balarisha Thyrniang clinched bronze.

      The long jump events brought plenty of excitement, with Joytiful Narlong of Ri-Bhoi taking gold in the women’s category with a leap of 4.75 metres. Her teammate Doralin Ronghi secured silver, while Tiewlari Rynshiang from WKH took bronze. In the men’s category, Renaldi Dhar from West Jaintia Hills claimed gold with a jump of 6.45m, narrowly beating Jebirth Ch Marak of West Garo Hills, who settled for silver.

      In the 400m races, Kyrshanlang Shylla of WJH sprinted to victory in the men’s final, clocking 51.46 seconds, while EKHD’s Donbok Shabong took silver. In the women’s race, WJH’s Damika R Lyngdoh earned gold with a time of 1:02.37 minute, holding off Ritina Hanse of Ri-Bhoi, who claimed silver.

      The day concluded with thrilling relay races, where WJH teams stole the show. The women’s team won the 4x100m relay in 55.44 seconds, followed by Ri-Bhoi and EKH. In the men’s relay, WJH once again triumphed with a time of 45.59 seconds, while EKH and North Garo Hills took silver and bronze.

      Today also saw EKH win both the men’s and women’s softball finals. In the men’s category East Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi received silver and bronze, whereas in the girls’ category, WJH and WKH finished second and third.

      Neha Hajong and Luiza Tamang, who have represented Meghalaya in cricket, were named Best Pitcher and Best Hitter in the women’s category, while Fatima Dkhar was the Best Catcher. Shongdor Shangpliang (Best Pitcher), Wadphang Phawa (Best Catcher) and Sandy Kharchandy (Best Hitter) won the corresponding awards in the men’s category.

      Meanwhile, in sport climbing, SWKH bagged two gold medals. EKH clinched one gold, three silver and one bronze whereas WJH received one gold and one bronze. South Garo Hills won one silver medal while East Garo Hills took home two bronze medals.

      Naphika Sungoh from WJH clinched the top rank at speed climbing in the U-16 girls’ category, while the second rank went to Chitea N Marak from SGH and the third rank was secured by Dadapbiang Lyngdoh from EKH.

      As for the U-16 boys, the first position was bagged by Givensamson Lyngdoh from SWKH. Bhabok Nongkhlaw from EKH was second and Ayush Ch Momin from EGH third.

      The finals of the wushu events were organised today where, in the women’s 45kg category, Sisila Dkhar of EJH claimed gold. She was followed by Rebecca Nongbri of EKH with the silver, while EWKH’s Ibaniewkor Nongrum and Aitimary Wahlang were awarded joint bronze.

      In the women’s 52kg category, Rijanai Ryndong (EKH) won gold, Samjana Phawa (EJH) silver and Clara Airi Klein and Thaneng Klein (both Ri-Bhoi) bronze.

      In the men’s 48kg category, Josiah Hynniewta (WKH) bagged gold, Salmi Phawa (EJH) silver and Pyndaplang Marak (EKH) and Lambhakidame Lamare (WJH) bronze.
