Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today waxed eloquent about the dedication and selflessness of the Meghalaya government, saying that many sleepless nights have been spent trying to work out how to bring more schemes and resources for the state and its people.
Tynsong was asked about corruption allegations against his National People’s Party (NPP) but he dismissed these out of hand, saying that such accusations are part and parcel of being in government and, were he in opposition, he would make the same claims.
When questioned about the potential impact of anti-incumbency on the upcoming district council elections, Tynsong pointed to the numerous development projects underway. “I’ve just listed projects worth Rs 5,000 crore. That is not a small feat for a state like Meghalaya,” he said. According to him, these projects are evidence of an active and dedicated government that has successfully lobbied for support from the central government.
“We don’t waste time finding faults in others. Instead, we focus on going to Delhi, even with folded hands if necessary, to secure these projects for the state. This is for the people of Meghalaya, for their future,” he said. Tynsong underlined the sacrifices made by his government, including sleepless nights spent strategizing on how to bring more resources and schemes to the state. “I don’t benefit personally from these projects. It’s about the state and the future generation.”
