The Nokma of a Garo Hills village has filed a formal complaint with the Lokayukta wherein he alleged that a contractor on a road project had been paid Rs 4 crore out of a Rs 5.0666 crore project despite not doing any work on the route.
The road runs from Dapgre to Dana Adugre via Wa·Gegitok Bazar under the Baghmara division of the Public Works Department. It was meant to use “German technology” to blacktop it, create culverts, retaining walls, etc.
The final work order was issued in January 2017 with a two-year deadline.
The headman, John Ch Marak, alleged that even now, in December 2024, there has not been a shred of work done on the project on the ground even though Rs 4 crore has been withdrawn by the contractor, named as CCL International Ltd of Tura.
The complainant has thus requested the Lokayukta to further investigate the matter.
