The state government has notified 10 forests in Ri Bhoi district as community reserves totalled at about 80.75 hectares.
The first forest located at New Amkrem village at 27.8 hectares will be known as New Amkrem Catchment area community reserve.
Another forest located at Umlakro village will be known as Umlakro Youth and Social Welfare Organisation community reserve with 5.30 hectares.
Other forests declared as community reserves are Mawker Presbyterian Church at Umsaw Nongbri (6.17 ha), forest of Suzana Kalwing in Umsohphan village (10 ha), Umsaw Nongbri Presbyterian Church (A) (6.45 ha), Lum Kyntang Mawtnum (1.68 ha), forest of Pynwandurlang Markhap at Umsaw Nongbri (5.95 ha), forest of Kur Mawphniang at Umsaw Nongbri (12 ha), forest of Kbet Nongbri in Umsaw Nongbri (1.40 ha) and that of Umsaw Nongbri Presbyterian Church (B) at 4 ha.
For each of these community reserves a managing committee is being headed by a chairman, who shall also be the Honorary Wildlife Warden of the reserve.
The Divisional Forest Officer, Khasi Hills Wildlife Division, Shillong or his nominee not below the rank of Forester-I shall be the member secretary.
