Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar was today inducted as the chief patron of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides at a special award ceremony held in Raj Bhavan.
The ceremony was held to celebrate the 74th foundation day of the youth movement, which marked a significant moment in the organization’s commitment to nurturing values of discipline, leadership, and service in the youth of Meghalaya.
In his address, the Governor expressed his gratitude for the honour and reaffirmed his dedication to supporting the noble mission of Bharat Scouts and Guides. He highlighted the crucial role the organisation plays in shaping responsible citizens who are equipped to contribute to society with integrity, compassion, and a strong sense of community service.
The Governor also praised the efforts of the Scouts and Guides in fostering unity, cultural understanding, and environmental awareness, aligning with the broader goals of national development and character building. He encouraged the youth to remain committed to the guiding principles of the organization and to continue serving as role models in their communities.
The annual event also included the handing over of the Rajya Puraskar (Governor’s Award) certificates. This is the highest state award and was given to 348 scouts and guides, rovers and rangers for their dedication and perseverance.
Four adult leaders were also handed the Warrant of Appointments for taking over their respective roles.
A walkathon was also carried out by the awardees earlier in the day to mark the launch ceremony of the 75th anniversary diamond jubilee of the Bharat Scouts and Guides.
The event was attended by Chief Secretary Donald Phillips Wahlang, President of Bharat Scouts and Guides along with Scouts, Guides and officials.
