The Hynñiewtrep Youths Council (HYC) launched a poster campaign today to raise awareness about drugs and urged the government to take decisive action.
The pressure group’s members took to the streets to express their concerns with slogans and banners.
In a statement to the media, HYC president Roykupar Synrem announced plans for a mass public meeting tomorrow at Motphran.
He said that the rally aims to mobilise community support and intensify pressure on the government to address the drug crisis. The group has not yet received a formal response from the state government regarding its demands for a special police force to deal with drug crime, more rehabilitation centres in the state, etc.
Synrem warned that if the government’s reply fails to meet the HYC’s expectations, the pressure group will stage a protest at the Secretariat.
