Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar today convened a meeting here at Raj Bhavan with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) to discuss on road infrastructure of Meghalaya.
Several crucial issues related to the state’s infrastructure development were discussed focussing on maintenance and construction of national highways, improving water supply infrastructure, and strategies to enhance connectivity across the state, which is vital for the socio-economic growth of Meghalaya.
The Governor emphasised the need for a collaborative approach between state and central agencies to ensure timely execution of projects that will benefit the people of the state.
He discussed the ongoing efforts for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, status of Minor Roads under PWD, and discussed alternative by-passes for Shillong connecting other districts to avoid traffic jams.
The Governor also stressed on widening and upgrading existing roads to national highways and discussed the status of drinking water, street lighting, road and drainage in New Shillong township.
The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Barilang W Phira, NHAI Director S. Choudhary and NHIDCL Director Bijau Patir.
The officials assured the Governor of their commitment to fast-tracking ongoing projects and addressing any challenges in coordination with the state government.
