The first-ever ‘Child Well-being’ mela was held in the city today conducted by the Faith Foundation, Meghalaya’s leading organization in child rights and child sexual abuse prevention.
The mela was held at Providence School, Laitumkhrah under the theme, ‘Child Participation,’ which highlights the organisation’s commitment to creating an environment where children actively engage in decisions impacting their safety and well-being.
The mela marks the beginning of a series, with similar events scheduled for Mawpat Presbyterian School and Dainty Buds School in Lumshatsngi to enhance awareness on child safety and support for both children and families in a collaborative community setting.
Through such events, Faith Foundation aims to foster an inclusive culture where children are recognized as active participants in shaping their own safety and well-being.
Secretary of the Bethany Society, Carmo Noronha in his keynote address during the mela emphasised the importance of well-being for every individual. He shared five key principles for maintaining personal and communal well-being, highlighting the role of self-care, community support, and proactive safety measures in fostering a secure and healthy environment for all.
His message underscored the need for community and school collaboration in creating a culture of safety and inclusivity for children.
Interactive stalls were put up at the mela where parents and children collaborated in engaging activities aimed at fostering holistic well-being and personal safety education. Activities included grassroots comic creation, visual arts, puppetry, role plays on child well-being, musical performances, and hands-on sessions on personal safety education.
These stations promoted life skills, creativity, and community engagement, empowering children with essential knowledge on self-protection and well-being.
The announcement of the lucky dip winner set a lively tone for the day’s activities.
