In yet another instance of irregularity in the recruitment for government jobs by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), a candidate for the post of Assistant Public Prosecutor was appointed despite not being qualified for the post.
In a statement issued today, the Employment Monitoring Cell of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) said that it has sent a complaint to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong regarding irregularities in the recruitment in the Directorate of Prosecution conducted by the MPSC.
“The MPSC has called for applications for six posts of Assistant Public Prosecutor in 2023 and as per the advertisement, the applicant for the posts have to possess legal experience of not less than three years and has passed law degree in criminal cases,” the KSU said.
It also claimed that one of those who passed the recruitment for the post did not fulfill the criteria as per the advertisement.
“It was found that he passed his law degree in 2023 and had perhaps had not completed the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) which is one of the examinations that lawyers have to pass after their law degree in order to obtain licence to practise as lawyer in the court,” the KSU said.
Stating that the selection of this unqualified candidate showed something fishy within the MPSC, the KSU said, “When MPSC does not even implement the criteria it set for recruitment, it is meaningless to have such criteria. At the same time, by putting such criteria, other candidates who have just completed their law degree could not apply for the posts.”
The KSU has asked the Home Department to rectify such anomalies and ensure that only deserving candidates are recruited to the posts.
