The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya is working as the regional coordinating institute (RCI) in Meghalaya under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) programme, a flagship programme of the Union Ministry of Education.
NIT Meghalaya has adopted five villages, namely Umkhaba, Kutmadan, Mawsmai, Saitsophen and Kalatek in East Khasi Hills under UBA, inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by transferring technical knowledge to the grassroot level to enrich the livelihoods of the villagers, promoting organic farming and to create sustainable eco-friendly technologies.
The UBA cell of NIT Meghalaya received assistance from Shree Gautam Construction of Guwahati under RITES Ltd, through a corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme, to obtain a boat for the villagers of Kalatek so that they can use it to cross the river as a part of their regular transportation and handed it over to them today.
The occasion was graced by NIT Meghalaya Director Pinakeswar Mahanta, NIT Meghalaya Registrar Bhaskarjyoti Chakravarty and Biswajit Goswami of RITES.
