Tourist taxi operators under the banner of All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxis Association (AKMTTA) have decide to send an open letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to urge for restricting tourist taxis from Assam and other states from ferrying visitors to Meghalaya’s tourist spots.
The decision was taken by AKMTTA today at a gathering held at Malki Ground here which was also attended by members of various taxi associations.
Stating that they have decided to give a one-week deadline to the government to meet their demand, leaders of the AKMTTA also threatened to stage a rally and hunger strike if the government fails to respond to their demand.
It may be mentioned that members of AKMTTA recently organised a week-long black flag protest that ended on September 14 to highlight their demand.
Leaders of the association said that they did not seek any ban on the entry of vehicles from other states to Meghalaya but only wanted the commercial vehicles to drop the tourists in designated spots and that the local cabbies should take the tourists to the tourist spots.
