After the SSA non-teaching staff, now it’s the turn of SSA teachers to demand a salary hike.
The All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) and the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) today served a deadline till September 30 to the State government to enhance their salary by 100 percent.
In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today, AMSSASTA president Peter Thyrniang and AGHSSASTA president Labingstone G. Momin warned that SSA teachers in the State would launch an indefinite State-wide protest if the demand was not met within the deadline.
“As per the resolution taken by the central executive meeting of AMSSASTA and AGHSSASTA on September 7 at Mount Hermon Higher Secondary School, Nongstoin, we demand that the government should immediately enhance the salary of SSA teachers in Meghalaya by September 30,” they said.
The two SSA teachers’ bodies also stated that it has been eight long years since the State government enhanced the salary of the SSA teachers. “Being aware of the present price rise scenario, we strongly demand that our salary be once again enhanced at the earliest with not less than 100 percent hike and based on revised pay structure of the State government.”
On July 29, over 1200 non-teaching staff under the SSA staged an indefinite sit-in-demonstration at Malki Ground here demanding 80 percent salary enhancement plus 2 percent based on seniority and 5 percent annual increment.
The non-teaching staff withdrew their agitation on August 20 after the State government agreed to enhance the salary by rationalisation of posts of different categories and length of service.
The new pay will be implemented with effect from April 1, 2024. Besides, the SSA non-teaching staff would be paid 2 percent seniority allowance for each year of service rendered as on April 1, 2024.
