Stating that Meghalaya is faced by many challenges and the government is not able to handle them appropriately, TMC leader Dr Mukul Sangma said, “The result of the recently concluded parliamentary elections is proof of that. The outcome (where opposition parties won both Meghalaya seats) is because of factors that revolve around the anger built up over the years and this does not go well with the state and it challenges the core value of democracy.”
He reminded how frustration among the youth had led to chaos and lawlessness in the past and said, “There is a need for all of us, particularly the government, to instil confidence and trust amongst the people who are job seekers. If you ask any of the job seekers if they have trust in the system then you will know the reality.”
Referring to the recent MPSC fiasco, he questioned under which law is it permitted to review the results and give additional marks.
“This is a mockery of the system as the result is the trust and confidence on the integrity of the whole process of recruitment,” he added.
Referring to another instance of the District Selection Committee (DSC) result in East Garo Hills, Dr Sangma said, “I was told by the job seekers who participated in the recruitment process that three members from one particular family have passed. So this requires us to go deeper into the whole process of recruitment and take it to a logical conclusion. Whether MPSC or DSC, it is a matter of grave concern.”
Questioning the government for no permanent vacancies against sanctioned posts and recruitment coming up for years, he said, “I can only interpret these as attempts to siphon money meant to be for salary by not filling up the vacancies.”
