The Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People FKJGP- Jaiñtia Hills region has claimed that security measures along the Meghalaya-Bangladesh border is insufficient.
Members of the FKJGP and Synjuk Ki Waheh Chnong War Jaintia today visited villages from Riahjalong to Amdoh along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Dawki and stated that the presence of the Border Security Force (BSF) was negligible and no presence at all in certain stretches.
During the visit, the two groups met with the officer in-charge of Dawki police station and urged him to tighten security measures along the international border with Bangladesh.
The groups also claimed that Bangladeshis have constructed houses near the border pillar.
President of the Synjuk, Twinson Rymbui and general secretary Kampher Pohlong have expressed concern over the inadequate presence of the BSF especially due to the law and order problem in the neighbouring country.
Calling for effective border management, FKJGP regional president Damien War stated that barbed wire fences erected along the border were uprooted leaving gaps that could be an open path for illegal immigration.
