The Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has demanded the state government to allot work tenders to local qualified contractors for the New Shillong Water Supply Scheme.
Members of the pressure group led by president Roy Kupar Synrem today met with PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak to push forth with the demand stating that local contractors are competent to undertake various works under the project as per their capacities.
Synrem said since the water supply scheme worth Rs 1600 crore, is fully state sponsored the department should formulate norms and conditions to ensure that all the works for the scheme are allotted to the local qualified contractors of the State.
Not just the New Shillong Water Supply Scheme, the HYC has urged the department that henceforth all the works or schemes sponsored by the state should be allotted to the locals by framing norms suitable for them to take part in the tendering process.
