The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will soon call the Syiem of Hima Sohra for a discussion on the controversy arising out of the council’s decision to grant the status of Raid to Majai village.
The executive committee of the KHADC today discussed the opposition of Hima Sohra to the council’s notification granting Raid status to Majai village.
“In the coming days we will call the authorities of Hima Sohra for discussion in connection with this issue and the executive committee has taken suggestions from certain important individuals to resolve the matter,” KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member Pynshngain N. Syiem said today.
He also said that the District Council is examining the matter so that no parties are affected by any decision.
It may be mentioned that on July 6, the Syiem of Hima Sohra had given the KHADC time till today to denotify the notification to grant Raid status to Majai.
It may be mentioned that the Syiem of Hima Sohra, Freeman Sing Syiem and the Executive Dorbar have vehemently opposed the order of the District Council to recognise Majai as a Raid.
According to the Hima Sohra, the decision to recognise Raid Majai was done without the consent of the office of the Syiem of Hima Sohra and therefore the Executive Dorbar rejected the notification.
