A coordination conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) concluded today with both sides reaffirming their desire to work closely with one another to combat various challenges.
The conference began on July 1 featuring Inspectors General and Region Commanders of the two forces here. The ‘Joint Record of Discussion’ was signed today.
The 13-member Indian delegation was led by Insp Gen Patel Piyush Purusottam Das of the BSF’s Tripura Frontier, while the 13-member BGB delegation was led by Additional Director General Md Shazedur Rahman.
During the conference, various issues of bilateral interest were discussed at length. Further, special emphasis was given to focus issues, such as insurgency, trans-border crimes, including smuggling of contraband items like psychotropic drugs and narcotic substances, border violations and pending infrastructural/developmental works, besides the common Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP).
During the conference, head of both the delegations deliberated and re-emphasised to jointly evolve viable solutions to various bilateral issues being confronted by both forces to create an environment of peace and tranquillity along the international boundary by amicably resolving them and to further strengthening the bond of friendship, mutual trust and cooperation, a BSF press release stated.
Such conferences take place at regular intervals, with the last being held in Bangladesh’s Chattogram in September 2023.
“Over the past few years, the BSF and BGB have not only cemented their bond of friendship jointly but have also acquired new dimensions in mutual trust and cooperation for resolving the bilateral border issues through meaningful dialogues at various command levels,” the press release stated.
