Urban Affairs Minister Paul Lyngdoh has said the relocation process of hawkers has been carefully mapped area by area and zone by zone to ensure a smooth transition.
Around 200 street vendors of Khyndai Lad area here have voluntarily registered themselves and staked claims to the spaces that the government is providing them under the relocation plan.
Lyngdoh said the plan aligns with stringent guidelines from the concerned ministry and all necessary procedures are being followed, despite the time it has taken.
Stating that some will not be pleased with the relocation plan, the minister said many hawkers are cooperating with the government. The relocation is in public interest as pedestrians will have the right to walk.
He assured that the relocated hawkers would receive better facilities in spaces that the government is providing them.
