The A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has submitted an appeal to the Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills over the apparent non-functioning of the Centre for Innovation for Sustainable Livelihood three years after it was constructed.
AHAM’s Ampati unit said that the building was constructed under the District Horticulture Office to harness innovation and collaboration, empower individuals, communities and the region as a whole through sustainable development.
It was expected to offer training, capacity building and access to innovative technologies and techniques to help farmers, small-scale entrepreneurs and community members improve their economic and social well-being.
All those lofty promises have yet to be delivered, however, as the building sits unused.
“The local community is eagerly awaiting the services and opportunities that the [centre] can provide,” AHAM’s South Western Zone president Wester G Sangma said in the letter. “Timely access to these resources can have a significant impact on the livelihoods and overall development of the region.”
