The driver of an Alto 800 along with five other occupants were caught up in an accident and received minor injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a truck on the Shillong Bypass today.
This incident occurred at around 5:30am at Khapmara when the Alto was hit by the truck. The latter’s driver then fled the scene. Although the small car had its front end crushed by the weight of the truck, the occupants had a fairly lucky escape.
The injured were identified as Rodina Janong (26) from Qualapaty, Jermi O Shullai (27) from Wahtapbru, Eric Mawlieh (25) from Qualapaty, Edmund Nonghuloo (28) from Lumdiengjri, Fracis Pde (28) from Lama Villa and Tremiki Suting (26) from Qualapaty.
They were all taken to Bhoirymbong Community Health Centre for medical treatment.
The doctor there stated that they had been under the influence of alcohol but were discharged quickly as they had only received minor injuries. Police are continuing to look for the truck driver and are investigating the cause of the accident.
