The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Garo Hills under CAU-I, ATARI -Zone VII celebrated the World Milk Day with farmers at its campus in Dagalgopgre today.
Principal Scientist & Head Dr Athokpam Haribhushan discussed the importance of milk along with its role in ensuring food and nutritional security of the rural community especially the women and children.
Besides the clean milking procedures for milking cows was also discussed for getting quality milk.
SMS (Livestock Production) Dr Rupam Bhattacharjya coordinated a brief lecture on the importance of cattle farming and its scientific rearing management.
The College of Community Science, Tura also celebrated the day to recognise the importance of milk as a global food.
The event brought together members of the college community, the students and faculty with a total of sixty participants.
Professor and Head, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Dr. Namita Singh highlighted the global significance of World Milk Day and the role of milk in a balanced diet.
Dean Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad in her address underscored the college’s commitment to promoting health and wellness and fighting against malnutrition and hidden hunger through education.
A lecture on the history of World Milk Day, composition and nutritive value of milk and its essential nutrients was held with an aim to enhance participants’ awareness of the nutritional significance of milk consumption as a part of a balanced diet.
