While admitting that the Dialysis Unit in Shillong Civil Hospital is strained, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh today said that the critical deficit faced by it, is shortage of space.
Medical specialists running the unit had recently in a press conference revealed that the repaired Reverse Osmosis plant may not be able to take more loads with the increasing number of patients.
Lyngdoh disagreed that the dialysis machines were not functional and said all six of them were in order. She said the cause of concern is paucity of space, which the department has proposed before the Chief Minister.
“We are hopefully that we will be able to expand all of these infrastructures and we are looking at the possibility of improving the facilities of the unit,” Lyngdoh added.
The Minister also pointed that since the Reverse Osmosis runs 24X7 thereby putting a strain to the machine, the department has floated a tender for procurement of a higher end machine.
She also felt that dialysis unit, which has become a “chronic requirement” be set up at least in district hospitals to alleviate the pressure on Shillong Civil Hospital.
